Richard “Chip” Thomas has spent his adult life in the field of International Trade and Finance. He has studied and worked more than 10 years abroad, and travels extensively. After graduating from the Thunderbird Graduate School in 1975, Chip began a 22-year banking career where he developed his credit and finance skills in the international markets. During his banking career, he became involved in training customers on how to use various trade financing tools.
 
In 1995, Chip established the American Export Training Institute. His training is focused on export finance, specifically Letters of Credit. In the past 18 years, he taught over 9000 students from more than 4,000 companies. In 2005, Chip co-authored the Trade Finance Handbook. The book is tailored to small and mid-size companies (SMEs) interested in how to effectively enter the international trade arena.
